Bed Sizes Around the World: A "King" Isn't Universal
Moving to a new country? Do not ship your fitted sheets. Bed sizes share the same names (King, Queen, Double) but have completely different dimensions.
The "King" Problem
- US King: 76 x 80 inches (massive).
- UK King: 60 x 79 inches (much smaller).
In fact, a UK King is roughly the same size as a US Queen.
The "Single" vs "Twin"
In the US, two single beds are called "Twins." In Europe, they are just "Singles" (90cm x 200cm). European singles are often slightly longer than American twins to accommodate taller people, but American twins are sometimes wider. Always measure your mattress in centimeters before buying linens online from international brands like IKEA!
