What is a Hectare? Land Measurement Explained
If you look at real estate listings in Europe, South America, or Australia, land is listed in "Hectares" (ha). In the US and UK, we use "Acres." How do they compare?
The 100x100 Square
A hectare is very easy to visualize. It is a square that is 100 meters by 100 meters. That equals 10,000 square meters.
Hectare vs. Acre
One hectare is roughly equal to 2.47 acres.
To visualize it: A standard international rugby field or soccer pitch is roughly 1 hectare in size. An American football field (including endzones) is roughly 1.32 acres, meaning you can fit almost two football fields inside one hectare.
